New “Climate Citizen” Visits Nauru in Historic First for Landmark Citizenship Programme

An IMGlobalWealth.com Report

Following IMGlobalWealth.com’s breaking news in August 2025 announcing Nauru’s first approved citizenships, this newsroom can confirm that the Pacific island nation has marked another milestone with its first new citizen visiting the island using a Nauru passport.

The traveller, a 57-year-old American, was among the earliest applicants approved under Nauru’s Economic and Climate Resilience Citizenship Programme. He has now become the first newly naturalised Nauruan citizen to set foot on the island.

Reuben has also travelled to several other countries using his Nauru passport. He says his decision to apply was shaped by a combination of principle and pragmatism, including the need for a reliable back-up plan.

“I have been using my Nauru passport quite frequently, and I feel reassured travelling to peaceful, neutral countries that do not take sides in international affairs,” he said.

“It gives me a sense of safety, more so than always travelling with an American passport, where people may assume you hold political views that matter to them.

“The other benefit for me is knowing that my contribution supports Nauru’s economy and environment, helping the people of Nauru to build climate resilience, and I feel good about that.”

Edward Clark, CEO of the Nauru Programme Office

Reuben added that the comparatively lower cost of the programme, combined with its emphasis on probity and integrity, further justified his choice.

Edward Clark, CEO of the Nauru Program Office, said the initiative has been designed for forward-thinking investors who understand the urgency of climate action and want to play a meaningful role in building a sustainable future.

“Contributions to the programme directly fund projects that strengthen the economy and address climate challenges such as energy security and access to fresh water, creating a clear link between an individual’s investment and improved economic and environmental outcomes.

“One of the most important features of this programme is its focus on integrity, with all applicants required to undergo rigorous due diligence checks and attend an interview.

“We work with international law enforcement agencies to ensure that only individuals of the highest calibre are able to participate in this innovative programme shaping Nauru’s future.”

The programme recognises dual citizenship, allowing investors to retain their existing nationality while benefiting from Nauruan citizenship.

There are no residency requirements, and citizenship benefits may be extended to an investor’s spouse, dependent children, parents and siblings.
