Michael Dell Overtakes Bezos as AI Boom Reshuffles the Billionaire League

An IMGlobalWealth.news Report

Michael Dell has briefly overtaken Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the world’s third-richest person, as the artificial-intelligence boom propels a new generation of fortunes to the top of the global wealth rankings.

Dell’s net worth climbed by an estimated $4.6 billion on 8 September to $267.7 billion, according to Forbes, taking him past Bezos, whose fortune slipped to $265.2 billion.

It was the first time the 61-year-old Dell Technologies founder had reached third place on Forbes’ real-time billionaire ranking.Only Elon Musk, then worth an estimated $942 billion, and Google co-founder Larry Page, at $277.9 billion, stood above him.

The ascent has been remarkably rapid. Dell’s fortune has more than doubled over the past year, powered largely by the soaring value of Dell Technologies, in which he retains a substantial stake.

The company’s shares reached a record high on 8 September after an extraordinary rally linked to investor enthusiasm for AI infrastructure.

Unlike much of the excitement surrounding AI software, Dell’s windfall reflects the less glamorous but increasingly lucrative hardware underpinning the technology.

Dell Technologies reported record quarterly revenue of $47 billion for the three months to July, up 58% from a year earlier. Its AI-optimised server business generated $16.4 billion in revenue during the quarter, while orders reached a record $60.9 billion.

The company subsequently lifted its full-year revenue forecast to $192 billion, $25 billion above its previous guidance. The billionaire rankings remain highly volatile.

Forbes’ real-time estimates showed Dell and Bezos swapping positions again as share prices moved the following day.Yet the broader message is harder to dismiss. AI is not merely reshaping technology markets.

It is rapidly redrawing the hierarchy of global wealth, rewarding those who control the computing power needed to make the boom possible.
